STUDIO—LIU is a boutique interior design studio founded by Louise Liu based in Sydney, Australia. At the heart lies a commitment to sculpting enduring interiors that exude a refined sensibility. Fuelled by curiosity and an understanding of the relationships between environment and inhabitant, the studio strives for an unwavering dedication to beauty.

—the most important thing you’ve designed to date:

I would say a home would be the most important to date and each home is different.

—a project you are working on now:

We have just finished a fun guesthouse in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney and are currently working on some amazing luxury residences scattered around Sydney.

—what constitutes great design:

Something meaningful, client considered, and enduring. All clients are unique and great design should reflect this.

—advice you would give a young designer starting their career:

Be forever curious, ask a lot of questions and find inspiring people who you can learn from.

—are you embracing any particular trends at the moment?

I prefer design to be less trend-driven however, I love the brushed stainless or aluminium over brass movement as well as anything in a high gloss lacquered finish.

—penthouse or townhouse:

Both!

—on your coffee table right now:

Nothing, I am very minimal.

—top 3 suppliers you love working with:

Studio ALM for their eclecticism,  506070  for their dedication to vintage,  Criteria  for their international selection.

—favourite hotel in the world:

One of my favourites would have to be the Benesse House on Naoshima Island, Japan.

—design hero:

There are too many to list but I go back to the icons - Charlotte Perriand, Gio Ponti and Carlo Scarpa to list a few.
