Studio 11.6 is an Istanbul-based practice exploring the space between object and sculpture, where form becomes a quiet expression of tension, restraint and presence. Founded as an instinct-led process rather than a defined studio model, the work evolves through a continuous negotiation between control and release, resulting in pieces that feel both deliberate and unresolved.

Shaped by a life lived between London, Paris, Spain and Istanbul, the studio’s language reflects a convergence of cultural influences. London introduced a clarity rooted in reduction, a process of removing rather than adding, which continues to ground the work. Alongside this, an ongoing interest in natural processes informs how forms emerge, hold tension and respond to pressure over time, not through direct reference, but through material behaviour and making.

Ceramics plays a central role within the practice, not as an outcome but as a method. Through clay, Studio 11.6 explores sensitivity, restraint and the moment of release, allowing subtle shifts and imperfections to surface. Each piece exists within space as part of an atmosphere rather than an object, holding a quiet intensity that invites reflection rather than attention.

Designeers Says

Cemre Karataş approaches ceramics with remarkable restraint, creating sculptural objects that reveal their complexity through proportion, texture and silence. Her work feels timeless rather than trend-led, bringing together contemporary minimalism with the enduring traditions of craftsmanship. Whether displayed individually or within carefully composed interiors, her pieces encourage a slower way of experiencing space.
