Lulu Light Keeper

£1,000.00

Lulu Light Keeper by Lamiss Abi Akar is a human-scale lampshade that transforms memory into presence. Drawing from the figure of the domari, once responsible for lighting the streets at dusk, the piece reimagines this vanished role as a luminous, sculptural form. No longer the keeper of light, the figure becomes the light itself.

The base is shaped through abstract, organic forms that evoke the human body, grounding the piece in both physicality and symbolism. Rising above, an embroidered fabric lampshade forms a soft, architectural “head” crowned with the geometry of Lebanese arches. This interplay between textile, structure, and light creates a layered narrative where past and present, absence and presence, quietly intersect.

Both functional and poetic, Lulu exists as a totemic object within a space. Its scale and materiality invite reflection, while the diffused glow carries a sense of intimacy and cultural memory, echoing the well-known phrase: "The roads are empty; not even a lightkeeper remains."

Size:
160 x 90 x 40 cm (H x W x D) – Deep rose
90 x 60 x 40 cm (H x W x D) – Yellow
200 x 130 x 50 cm (H x W x D) – Blue
200 x 140 x 50 cm (H x W x D) – Pink

Lead time for pieces ranges from 2 to 4 weeks.

About the Designer
Lamiss Akar is a Lebanese designer whose work exists between sculpture and function, where objects take on an almost corporeal presence. Her pieces feel shaped by gesture and memory rather than rigid structure, resulting in forms that appear instinctive and quietly expressive. Drawing from Lebanon’s layered cultural landscape, her practice is rooted in a sensory understanding of material.

Working across ceramic, textile, and wood, Akar creates objects that evoke touch as much as form, often defined by fluid silhouettes and subtle movement. Colour plays an emotive role within her work, shifting between earthy tones and more vivid accents. Resisting clear categorisation, her approach proposes a language of design that feels intuitive, atmospheric, and alive.
