Escapefromsofa: The Quiet Architecture of Warm, Human Spaces
people • DESIGNERS
ESCAPEFROMSOFA has shaped a distinct design language rooted in warmth, tactility, and emotional clarity. From their Istanbul studio, the team creates interiors and objects defined by refined materials, gentle contrasts, and an instinctive understanding of how people want to live. Their work celebrates the soul of craft, the beauty of patina, and the serenity of understated luxury.
In this conversation with Designeers, the studio reflects on the inspirations guiding them today, the influence of Istanbul’s rhythms, and the quiet power of materials that age with grace. What emerges is an approach guided by sensitivity and intention, elevating everyday spaces into timeless environments that feel human, grounded, and deeply lived in.

What’s inspiring you the most right now: a material, a city, a mood, or even a piece of music?
Escapefromsofa
Lately, I’m inspired by quiet, grounded materials and the calm confidence they bring into a space. The slow rhythm of Istanbul, natural patinas, and the serenity of well-crafted objects all blend into a constant background melody for me.

Escapefromsofa has such a warm, soulful aesthetic. How would you describe the studio’s design DNA in three words?
Escapefromsofa
Timeless. Tactile. Human.

Istanbul is a city of contrasts. How does the spirit of Istanbul influence your work?
Escapefromsofa
Istanbul teaches us to embrace contrast without conflict. It’s a place where history and modernity breathe together, and we translate that duality into interiors that feel grounded yet contemporary, emotional yet understated.
DESIGNEERS
What’s one material you’re obsessed with at the moment, and why?
Escapefromsofa
Recently, I’ve been drawn to eucalyptus veneer. It carries a refined warmth and a subtle, elegant movement in its grain, expressive enough to create depth, quiet enough to remain timeless.

What’s the piece of furniture you wish the world appreciated more?
Escapefromsofa
The dining table. It’s more than a furniture piece; it’s the emotional core of a home. It gathers people, stories, and memories, and deserves the same architectural respect as any sculptural object.
“True timelessness lies in the quiet dialogue between design and the raw beauty of nature.”

Craft is a huge part of your identity. What’s a traditional technique you love reinterpreting in a contemporary way?
Escapefromsofa
We love reinterpreting hand-carved wooden details. Taking a deeply traditional craft and distilling it into clean, architectural lines allows us to preserve heritage in a modern, quiet way.
DESIGNEERS
What’s a dream interior project you would love to design, location, client, and all?
EscapeFromSofa
A sculptural cliffside home overlooking the Aegean, designed for someone who values art, raw textures, and generous spatial gestures. A place where nature sets the rhythm and the architecture simply listens.
DESIGNEERS
What’s the most surprising place you’ve found inspiration for a recent piece?
EscapeFromSofa
An old brass elevator door in Beyoğlu, Istanbul, with its patina, the softened edges shaped by time, and the tones blending into each other. A small moment that opened an entire palette.

And finally, what does a beautifully designed home feel like to you?
Escapefromsofa
A beautifully designed home feels effortless. Warm, intuitive, quietly luxurious. It should ground you, soften you, and make space for life to unfold organically.
