Staying in a beautifully designed hotel is more than just a night away, it’s an immersion in boutique hospitality design, where mood, materiality, and narrative shape every detail.
To honour the dialogue between interior design and travel, we asked ten top interior designers and artists from the Designeers network to share the design hotels they return to time and again.
From architectural hideaways in Paris to boutique retreats in Saint Tropez, each hotel reflects a deep sensitivity to place, atmosphere, and craft. These aren't just places to stay, they're design-led spaces that awaken emotion and redefine the meaning of feeling at home.
Ett Hem, Stockholm
Hotel Château Voltaire, Paris
1. Ett Hem Stockholm
“We’ve long admired the craft behind exceptional hotels, but it’s the intimate, design-led gems like Ett Hem in Stockholm that truly resonate. Hotels where nature isn’t just a backdrop, but a narrative force shaping space, material, and mood. This organic, story-first approach mirrors our own studio ethos, where every concept begins with a sense of place.”
2. hotel Château voltaire paris
“For a design-led city break, Château Voltaire captures the essence of Parisian charm. This boutique hotel blends refined interiors with quiet luxury, effortlessly balancing elegance and comfort in every detail. La Residencia, Mallorca
Byblos Hotel, St. Tropez
3. La residencia mallorca
“While aesthetics matter, it’s the emotional experience that defines a truly great hotel and La Residencia in Deia, Mallorca, is just that. Set against lush landscapes with timeless interiors and deep ties to the art world, it offers a boutique stay that feels both grounded and elevated. Tapas on the terrace, overlooking a sculpture garden, only deepens the sense of relaxed splendour. A perfect blend of luxury, culture, and calm.”
4. Byblos hotel st. tropez
“For a stay steeped in art and Riviera glamour, the Byblos Hotel in St. Tropez is a destination in itself. Jean-Michel Capron’s iconic ceramic works, most notably the surreal Enlèvement d'Europe mural, leave an unforgettable impression from the moment you arrive. From the grand staircase to intricate flooring, his signature artistry runs through the space, making this boutique hotel a standout for design lovers and collectors alike.”
Hotel Amour, Paris
Mezzatorre, Ischia
5. HOTEL AMOUR paris
“Creating a hotel has been one of my greatest dreams since childhood. I’ve always loved the transformative quality of hotels, how they offer a crafted, immersive world you can briefly call home. Of all the places I’ve stayed, Hotel Amour in Paris stands out. Its playful yet intimate atmosphere, artistic interiors, and unmistakably Parisian spirit capture the essence of good living. It doesn’t just accommodate you — it welcomes you into its world."
6. MEZZATORRE ISCHIA
“Perched dramatically on the cliffs of Ischia, Mezzatorre Hotel has become a cherished summer tradition. Its luxurious interiors are effortlessly balanced with the natural beauty of the island and a deep respect for architectural heritage. What I admire most is the thoughtful use of local materials and the way the design honours the building’s historic soul. It’s a masterclass in preserving character while offering modern-day indulgence.”
Plaza 18, Vejer de la Frontera
Pulitzer, Amsterdam
7. Plaza 18 vejer de la frontera
“I may be biased, but Plaza 18 in Vejer de la Frontera, the boutique hotel we had the privilege to design, holds a special place in my heart. Set within a 19th-century merchant’s home, the restoration was an exercise in balancing heritage architecture with contemporary elegance. It’s a deeply personal project—one that honours history while offering today’s traveller an intimate, design-led sanctuary. A true home away from home.”
8. Pulitzer amsterdam
“My favourite hotels are those that connect me deeply to the destination, and Pulitzer Amsterdam does exactly that. It offers a refined yet modern take on European design within a series of historic canal houses. The interiors balance heritage and contemporary comfort, weaving together Dutch character, architectural charm, and understated luxury.”
Audo Residence, Copenhagen
Dear Lisbon Palace Chiado, Lisbon
9. audo residence copenhagen
“My recent stay at Audo Residence in Copenhagen was a reminder that great design doesn’t have to shout. The atmosphere is relaxed and intimate — more like staying in a beautifully curated home than a traditional hotel. With its seamless blend of modern design, warm textures, and quiet sophistication, it offers a refreshing departure from conventional hospitality. It’s a place where you can truly exhale.”
10. Dear Lisbon Palace Chiado lisbon
"One of my favourite stays is Dear Lisbon Palace Chiado, a restored old-town palace that beautifully preserves its original architecture while blending antique details with contemporary design. It’s the kind of place that feels both inspiring and intimate, full of character yet calm in spirit. We stayed in an all-pink room with soaring French doors that opened onto the street, a dreamy, spacious retreat that felt like our own pastel sanctuary in the heart of Lisbon."
