Club Kiva marks a new chapter for luxury interior designer Carly Madhvani, one where music, craftsmanship, and lifestyle converge into a singular design language. A six-time winner at the London Design Awards, with three Gold and three Platinum honours, Madhvani brings both critical acclaim and cultural depth to this latest venture.

Shaped by decades immersed in global festival culture and a career defining refined residential interiors, she identified a clear gap in the market: DJ equipment that could exist confidently, even beautifully, within the home. The result is a sculptural, design-led DJ console conceived with the same reverence as bespoke furniture or collectible art.

Developed in collaboration with specialist joinery partners, Club Kiva balances technical precision with visual restraint, elevating sound systems from background technology to intentional focal points within contemporary interiors.

In this interview, Madhvani reflects on the origins of Club Kiva, the enduring influence of music culture on her design philosophy, and how high-end interiors are evolving towards more immersive, expressive, and sensorial experiences.

How did Club Kiva start? What gap did you see in the market?

CARLY MADHVANI

Club Kiva began very organically. After many years running my own interior design studio, I realised that music had always been a constant in my home, particularly vinyl and sound systems rooted in the culture of the 1990s, which I have always loved. However, there was nothing on the market that truly elevated those systems as part of a considered interior.

What I could not find was a piece that treated music equipment with the same reverence as furniture or art. Most solutions felt either purely technical or visually compromised. There were very few luxury DJ consoles designed specifically for the home.

So I decided to design one for myself, a piece of furniture that brought together audio, visual presence, and craftsmanship. Club Kiva was conceived as an entertainment hub that feels intentional, sculptural, and at home within a refined residential setting, rather than something to be hidden away.

How have your global music festival experiences shaped your thinking?

CARLY MADHVANI

Over the past 30 years, I have travelled extensively to music festivals around the world, and those experiences have had a profound influence on how I think about energy, atmosphere, and design.

What I have consistently observed is how dramatically a space can transform when lighting, sound, and movement are in harmony. Thoughtful lighting that syncs with music, along with well-considered functionality such as concealed cables and clean sightlines, can completely elevate the experience.

Festivals are immersive because nothing feels accidental or messy. I wanted to bring that sense of completeness into the home. The positioning of the DJ standing and engaging with the room immediately changes the energy of a space. Even as a statement piece of furniture, the console creates anticipation and invites people to gather, celebrate, and connect.

Who did you collaborate with, and what was the hardest challenge?

CARLY MADHVANI

I collaborated with a bespoke joinery company that I have worked with for many years as an interior designer. We have delivered over 30 projects together, and there is a deep level of trust in both their craftsmanship and attention to detail. Being London based also allows me to remain closely involved throughout the design and fabrication process.

The most challenging aspect was achieving a seamless balance between technical performance and visual elegance. In particular, designing a removable art panel for the front of the console that could be beautifully illuminated, easily changed, or removed entirely without exposing fixings or electrical components.

Developing a solution where the electrics could quite literally appear and disappear required significant innovation. This element is now subject to a UK patent pending, as it is both technically unique and central to the identity of Club Kiva.

Tell us about the materials and finishes.

CARLY MADHVANI

The materials and finishes had to be both durable and refined. My own home has a strong mid century modern influence, so I was drawn to materials such as rosewood and marble, elements that feel timeless, tactile, and rich in character.

The sculptural curves of the console were equally important. I live in a circular, landmark building in West London, and the form of the piece was intentionally designed to echo both the interior detailing of my home and the exterior architectural language of the building itself.

Practical considerations were just as critical. For example, a protective trim was integrated along the console edge to ensure that heavy DJ equipment can be removed and replaced with minimal wear over time. Beauty and longevity had to coexist.

What was your non-negotiable design detail?

CARLY MADHVANI

My absolute non-negotiable was creating something genuinely new, a piece of furniture I had not seen before.

The removable art panel was central to that vision. It needed to be visually striking when in place, effortless to remove, and completely discreet in its mechanics. No visible fixings, no exposed electrics. This detail supports longevity, sustainability, and adaptability, allowing the console to evolve with different spaces, seasons, or occasions.

Another key principle was flexibility. The console is modular, transportable, and designed to move within a space. I refused to compromise on making it multifunctional, adaptable, and future-proof, a piece that can live with someone for many years rather than feeling fixed or static.

What does a DJ console unlock that a traditional living room cannot?

CARLY MADHVANI

My work has always been rooted in creating atmosphere and lifestyle, not just beautiful spaces. I have spent years thinking about how homes can be used in multiple ways, and music plays a powerful role in how people relax, connect, and celebrate.

A DJ console introduces intention. It transforms a living room from a passive space into an active one, somewhere that invites people to gather, participate, and enjoy the moment together. Music becomes a focal point rather than background noise.

Club Kiva is about elevating everyday living. It enables people to fully engage with music as part of a luxurious, considered lifestyle, and that has always been central to my design philosophy.

How does Club Kiva reflect your philosophy of hosting and celebration?

CARLY MADHVANI

Club Kiva reflects my philosophy because it is far more than a DJ console. It is a multifunctional entertainment hub. It can be used casually, playing music from a phone, or become the centrepiece for hosting, with DJs, vinyl, and lighting.

Importantly, it can also convert into a bar. Storage beneath the drawers can house glassware, while the top surface functions as a counter for drinks. This flexibility mirrors how people actually live and entertain.

I believe in designing timeless pieces that can move between spaces, adapt aesthetically, and take on different roles over time. Club Kiva embodies that belief, one piece, many functions, endless possibilities.

If you could place the console anywhere, where would it belong?

CARLY MADHVANI

There are many spaces where Club Kiva would feel completely at home. I can imagine it at the top of The Shard during an intimate dinner, in luxury hotels, or within members’ clubs as a focal point in a lounge setting, especially when the art panel is illuminated, and the lighting becomes dynamic.

Beyond residential interiors, I see strong potential for outdoor versions on yachts, villa terraces, or within landscaped gardens. I am also exploring variations, including a height-adjustable version, a compact edition for private jets, and additional outdoor models.

What excites me most is its versatility. My own home is relatively compact, yet the console fits seamlessly between dining and lounge zones, adapting effortlessly to different moods and occasions. It feels limitless in where it can belong.

How do you see home entertainment evolving?

CARLY MADHVANI

There is a clear shift away from hiding technology at all costs. Clients and DJs alike are increasingly frustrated by visible cables and clutter undermining beautiful interiors.

Club Kiva addresses this directly, with concealed cable voids, integrated sockets housed behind lockable doors, and a 360 degree design that looks intentional from every angle. Technology becomes elegant, secure, and architectural.

At the same time, audio quality has advanced enormously since the 1990s. Today’s speakers, often bespoke, deserve to be showcased rather than concealed. I believe we are entering a new era where sculptural technology becomes part of the design language of a home, seamlessly connecting music, craftsmanship, and spatial identity.

Club Kiva sits at the intersection of design, culture, and sound, where craftsmanship meets rhythm, and interiors become immersive experiences. For Carly Madhvani, it is a natural extension of a design philosophy shaped by music, movement, and materiality. As the boundaries between lifestyle, technology, and interiors continue to blur, Club Kiva offers a refined vision of luxury listening, one that invites music to take its place, unapologetically, at the centre of the home.
